Live Project(Life Inclusion Volunteer Enterprises): In 1996 STAR identified that a number of our former clients (who were extremely isolated) would benefit from a volunteer dropping in to see them on a fortnightly friendly visiting basis.
At this time STAR was in a fortunate position where we were able to fund such a program. We successfully ran this project from reserve funds for 3 years at which time the reserve funds were diminished.
In 1999 STAR along with Leveda Inc. and Pathways to Independence Inc. each gained a small amount of funding to run a volunteer project, the three organizations decided to combine our funds and thus the LIVE Project came into being.
In 2002 STAR successfully applied for recurrent funding from the Home and Community Care Programme for the continuation of the LIVE Project. Whilst Leveda Inc and Pathways to Independence Inc still maintain an interest in the project the ultimate responsibility for overseeing and administering the project is with the Board of Management of STAR Inc.
We recruit, orient, train and support volunteers to assist people with a disability to follow their interests within community settings. Student placements are available and provide opportunities for tertiary students to gain valuable knowledge and experience in this field. Training is provided to ensure the highest standards of skill and confidence for volunteers as well as support for volunteers. More...>>
