STAR Volunteering
In 1996 STAR identified that a number of our former clients (who were extremely isolated) would benefit from a volunteer dropping in to see them on a fortnightly friendly visiting basis. At this time STAR was in a fortunate position where we were able to fund such a program. We successfully ran this project from reserve funds for 3 years at which time the reserve funds were diminished.
In 1999 STAR along with Leveda Inc. and Life is for Living Inc. each gained a small amount of funding to run a volunteer project, the three organizations decided to combine our funds and to run a volunteer program that would meet the needs of our Clients.
In 2002 STAR successfully applied for recurrent funding from the Home and Community Care Programme for the continuation of the Volunteer Program. Whilst Leveda Inc and Life is fo Living Inc maintain an interest in the project the ultimate responsibility for overseeing and administering the project is with STAR Inc.
